Cid Harbour
One of the largest anchorages of the Whitsunday Islands, Cid Harbour provides
a huge area which is sheltered from most winds from the south and some smaller
sections that give great shelter from winds from the north. On a calm might,
this anchorage is absolutely heaven, and on a windy night, is very assuring to
sit on such good holding with no wave action at all.
There's also some very pleasant little beaches such as Sawmill Beach, Dugong
Beach and Joes Beach to name just a few. There is a short walk leading from
Sawmill Beach through some truly beautiful rain forrest, across to Dugong Beach.
It is possible to camp here with a permit obtained from Queensland Parks and
Wildlife, but you will need to bring everything you need for your stay with you,
including water. It can be difficult to arrange transport though to and from the
island camping locations as the current commercial permit process is very
restrictive and not aimed at promoting the parks to the use of the majority of
people. But it can be done !
