Airlie Beach is the popular lively little seaside town which is
most famous as a Gateway to the Whitsunday Islands. Airlie beach promotes 74
Whitsunday Islands, boasting beautiful beaches, like Whitehaven Beach, Hill
Inlet, and Chalkies Beach. The sheltered inlets and coves provide calm
conditions to snorkel or to scuba dive. Airlie Beach has a large Sailing
community, and hosts sailing regaters throughout the year. There are
numerous charter boats leaving every day of the week, either doing overnight
sailing, day trips to the Great Barrier Reef or day trips to Whitehaven
Beach. Sailing in the Whitsundays is a popular past time in Airlie beach. There
really is something for everyone.
Airlie Beach Accommodation
Airlie beach caters for all types of tourists, families,
singles, newlyweds, or the long term couple wanting that special weekend
getaway. Regardless of your budget, there is accommodation and dining that can
suite your needs. The main street has many youth hostels/backpackers that offer
cheap clean budget accommodation, or if you prefer something a little upmarket,
the hill that overlooks Airlie Beach has a selection of accommodation with views
to die for! Some even have spas on their balconies. What a way to end the day,
sipping on a nice glass of wine watching the sun set over the beach
in Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday Islands.
Campgrounds and caravan parks
A popular choice for many is to camp, either in a rented camper
van, caravan, or tent, Airlie Beaches camping grounds are very popular so you
will need to book ahead when travelling in the peak times. The family caravan
parks have wonderful facilities and are only a short distance from town, making
them exceptionally popular.
Airlie Beach Lagoon
The Airlie
Beach Lagoon is a great way to spend the day with the kids, with plenty
of shade and grassy areas to stretch out on. Take a book, take a Frisbee or even
take a picnic hamper and make use of the free BBQ's that the local council has
provided. The area is a smoke free zone so it's a great environment for the
young kiddies, with the paddling pools and jungle gyms to climb and play
on.
Dining in Airlie Beach
Airlie Beach has many restaurants along the main street, most
cater for walking in traffic but to be sure book the day before to be sure of a
table at dinner. With fresh local seafood, good steaks, Thai food or even a
Mexican meal, Airlie Beach will have something to tempt your palette. Each year
there is there is a wine and food festival, from the about the 5th of November,
lasting for a week. The main esplanades road closes and all the local
restaurants rise to the challenge to tickle your taste buds. A good time is
bound to follow, good wine good food and a great destination. Airlie Beach, what
